We are launching out first annual music event at The Bradford Playhouse this year. We will be showcasing the best local talent and headlining the event will be some of the best up and coming bands from the UK.

This years event will be taking place on the 31st of July and headlined by The Kabeedies (who will also be playing a special free acoustic set at the Bradford Musicians Centre the same day at 3pm)

Conservative leader David Cameron has come under attack from a voter over the stalled regeneration of Bradford city centre. A major retail development was put on hold by developers during the recession, leaving what has become known as “the hole in the ground”. Emma Heal said it was “all down to the Conservative council”. “Shame on you,” she told Mr Cameron. He replied: “I accept the regeneration is not going as it should.” However, during a question and answer session with viewers of BBC Look North, Mr Cameron said it was not right to put all the blame on the city council. “Regeneration has been difficult because you have had a government that has given us the deepest and longest recession since the war.” David Cameron agreed to take questions from voters in Yorkshire for a programme on Look North. Viewers can see more at 6.30pm on BBC1 (Yorkshire) on Monday 26 April.

Reckon you’re the next big thing? Just need that one big break?   Bingley Music Live Beckons competition is just what you’ve been waiting for . . .

Bands / Soloists from across the region are invited to compete to play Bingley Music Live on Sat 4th and Sun 5th September 2010.

Heats will take place at four venues across the district and two bands / soloists from each venue will be put forward to compete in the finals.  Finalists will play on stage at St George’s Hall, following in the footsteps of bands from The Jam to The Cribs, Metallica to the Sugababes. Then, four of these finalists will perform in front of 15000 people at Bingley Music Live over the festival weekend.

Bingley Music Live is fast becoming a must-play on the festival scene. Now in its 4th year it has been headlined by The Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Twang, Scouting for Girls, Editors and Doves. Could you be next? • 1.  Schedule
  • Closing date for application is Monday 17th May 2010
  • Heats will take place at the following Venues and dates:

  1. The Love Apple, Bradford - Thur 27th May
  2. Zephyr, Huddersfield – Tue 25th May and Tues 1st June
  3. Eiger Studios, Leeds – Sat 5th June
  4. The Hop, Wakefield - Wed 9th and Wed 16th June

  • Each band / artist will play 3 songs or a maximum 15 minute set
  • Finals to take place at St George’s Hall, Bradford on Saturday 24th July 2010.
  • All applicants must be available to play the final and available on both Sat 4th and Sun 5th September 2010.

• 2. Eligibility
  • All band members / artists must be aged 16 and above
  • Original set with one cover acceptable.  You must have sufficient original material to play a full support slot of 30 mins (in the event you are successful in winning a performance slot at Bingley Music Live).
  • You must have a current recording of your music available to access
  • Bingley Music Live Beckons is for performers and musicians that are not already signed to a label or playing regular paid gigs

• 3.  Supporting Info
  All bands / artists must supply with their entry form:
  • A current recording of your music  – either on CD or via networking site eg. Myspace or Youtube etc
  • A 2 or 3 sentence biography of the band / artiste, including a brief history and biggest gig you have played. This may be used for promotional materials
  • Photograph of band / artists if possible

We are going to be official sponsers of this years Mela Matik. It is basically a fringe festival for the Mela, however it seems to have out grown the Mela it’s self. This year it’s going to be massive and spreading across most of the district. We are encouraging everyone to put on events as part of it.
It could be like Bradford Music Week, but with tonnes more going on, and more people involved!

Another Yorkshire town, Wakefield, was considered the next least-attractive place for visitors as it was “dull and depressing”, according to a poll of 5,000 people conducted by hotel company Travelodge.

Other locations high on the do-not-visit list were Dundee (due to bad weather there), Sunderland (nothing to offer with dislikeable local accents) and Newport in South Wales, which was seen as having a high crime rate.

London led the list of the most-visited cities as well being the city most Britons were planning to visit this year. The next most-visited cities were Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and York.

Jane Glaister, Bradford Council’s strategic director for culture, tourism and sport, said: “Bradford is a great city to visit. It’s home to the National Media Museum, the most visited museum outside London and host to the nationally acclaimed Bradford Film Festival.

“Also, Bradford has recently been designated as Unesco City of Film – the only city in the world to achieve this designation.”
